It took me a little while to realize that my warmers respond better if I give them a monthly check up/cleaning. Nothing is self sufficient in this world and merely paying the electric bill and changing an occasional bulb isn’t all it takes to keep your warmer happily lighting up your life or creating a wonderfully scented ambiance to every room of your home.
So, once a month this is what I do. Before putting in a new wax I gather the following supplies: plastic orange peeler, Magic Eraser, Dawn dish soap, a towel & hot water. I don’t actually gather up the water but rather do this near the sink. I also bring all of my warmer dishes & plug in warmers to the counter so I’m not running back and forth.
First, I use the plastic orange peeler to gently pop out the existing wax. If the wax has lost it’s scent – it’s time to pop it in the trash. The concept of adding new wax to old wax is a bad one. Mainly because the new wax cannot revive the old wax and the old wax will dilute the scent of the new wax to the point that you just wasted your money. More is not more here – dispose of it. Accept that it’s over and move on. Got it? That was a hard topic but we are good now.
Those of you that know me, yes it is Luna. I love Luna. Luna. Bella Luna!
Seriously, this is what was under the Luna. My white warmers tend to do this. I’ve had some of my friends think that their warmer was scorching the wax but it just isn’t. Don’t give up all hope because we can clean this. Also, take a look at the side of the dish – if your version of changing wax is the dump it while it’s hot – you may have old wax build up around the dish – even if you carefully wipe it out each time, it seems that some of the warm wax spreads & leaves a coating around.
The only thing missing in the photo above is the hot water and towel.
Moving forward, let’s work our magic – using the Magic Eraser & Dawn. I like to rinse with hot water and then put a small amount of the dish soap in the warmer. I spread it around the entire dish with my finger and then wet the Magic Eraser as per the instructions. Gently scrub the inner dish and occasionally run your finger along the surface to feel for any waxy bumps. Apply more elbow grease to these spots and maybe gently pick it off with your fingernail. Now rinse well with hot water and dry with a towel. I buff the surface to make it shine!
After it’s completely dry – I put the dish back on the warmer and turn it on. From there I finish all of the other warmers, turning each on as I go. This makes me feel that my warmers will be ready when they get their next cubes of wax.
It’s that easy! My oldest warmer doesn’t throw a scent as well if I fail to keep the dish clean. If you notice the dish looks like the glossy coat is ruined.
But it cleans up well!
And my newest warmer showed signs of wear in its first month too.
Good as new! Now, all of my warmers are clean and waiting for the UPS man to deliver a new shipment today. He’s an hour late, and yes, I am counting the minutes and pacing the floor in excitement. Who knew that joining Scentsy would create such a stir for UPS delivery?
Here are photos of all the warmers I cleaned today – it took me all of 20 minutes and that was including my photo shoot! I have 2 more to go…
Yes – this is my family of warmers.
Until the next time…what’s your favorite warmer and scent? Mine is anything and everything Scentsy!
